|
Team: Aniket Shahane, Ed Mitchell and Keith Krumwiede, faculty associates The Village of Pawcatuck, one of four recognized villages in Stonington,
CT, grew up on the western bank of the Pawcatuck River,
which forms the state boundary between Connecticut and Rhode Island, directly
across from
Westerly, RI. The village has retained its traditional
industrial economic base, but is also home to marinas supporting an active
sport fishing industry
and a variety of retail and arts venues. Working in collaboration
with AMS Consulting and Phillips Preiss Shapiro Associates, the YUDW performed
a cross-disciplinary development study for Pawcatuck, beginning
with a
series of informal workshops and presentations, and culminating
in the production of a comprehensive report and town-center plan. This
plan will
serve as a framework for development whose primary goals
are to establish the relationship between downtown Pawcatuck and its waterfront,
to reinforce
the neighborhood structure of the downtown area, and to
reclaim (and rehabilitate) the city ’s aging industrial fabric for
newer and better uses. |
