DOWNTOWN ANSONIA CONCEPT PLAN

Team: James Detzel, Nathan St. John, Alan Plattus, faculty

In the wake of a devastating fire in the Spring of 2001, which destroyed the Latex Foam Factory, a major employer located on a ten-acre site in the heart of Downtown Ansonia, the UDW was asked to collaborate with a team from the Yale School of Management to develop proposals for not only the vacant Latex Foam site, but the entire Main Street district. While the SOM group prepared a marjeting study, the UDW developed plans for a new downtown greenway system, several new public spaces, additional parking, streetscape, and alternative scenarios for the redevelopment of the Latex Foam site as an integral part of the downtown business area. These prposals will be part of the marketing of the Latex Foam site and a basis for Ansonia’s request for state funding to support the overall redevelopment effort.
