The YUDW has worked with the Town of Madison, Connecticut since 1996,
when the YUDW conducted a year long study and charrette to look at the
town center and, in particular, the area south of the Boston Post Road,
where Stop and Shop was proposing to develop a major new store. The YUDW
worked with the Town, local merchants, and Stop and Shop to assess the
impact and opportunities connected with this development and the shape
a plan that addressed the various parties needs and hopes concerning parking
and traffic, open space, and the creation of a lively, pedestrian-oriented
small downtown. This study was integrated into a comprehensive look at
the entire town center, and the success of the effort led to ongoing work
with Madison, that included a more detailed study of public space and
streetscape in the town center, the development of design guidelines for
the Downtown Village District, and a study of the Bradley Road corridor. |
