Configuring Microsoft Outlook 2007

For Use with Your Exchange Email Account

(First Time Outlook User)

 

Before You Begin

This procedure is for a first time Outlook user only. Outlook has not been run or the client has not been partially configured in any way.

 

If you do not have an exchange account: A “start” request needs to be created with the business office prior to following these steps, typically 3 days from start of request is needed to proceed.

 

Tip* Try to login to the OWA site https://connect.yale.edu/owa/ if you can login your account is setup.

 

**Note: If your computer is NOT a Domain Member or you are attempting to configure your home computer through your ISP make a VPN Connection before attempting this procedure.

System Requirements

Microsoft Windows XP

Microsoft Outlook 2007

 

You will see the following two dialog boxes:

 

 

At the Outlook 2007 Startup dialog box

- Click Next

 

 

 

 

1. Account Configuration – E-mail Accounts

- Select Yes

- Click Next

 

  1. Add New E-Mail Account – Auto Account Setup

 

**Note: The following two fields will be automatically filled in as long as you are logged into the domain with your NetID

 

- Your Name: Last, First

- E-mail Address: first.last@yale.edu

- Click Next

 

 

 

 

 

 

  1. Add New E-Mail Account – Online search for your server settings

 

**Note: The auto discovering of your Exchange Account Information may take a few minutes. Please wait for the Your e-mail account is successfully configured to use Microsoft Exchange message before continuing.

 

- Click Manually configure server settings

- Click Next

 

 

  1. Add New E-Mail Account – Microsoft Exchange Settings

      - Click More Settings… to open the Microsoft Exchange Server dialog box.

 

 

  1. Microsoft Exchange Server – Connection Tab

- Click the Exchange Proxy Settings…

 

 

 

  1. Microsoft Exchange Server Proxy Settings

- Select the On fast networks, connect using HTTP first, then connect using TCP/IP

- Click OK

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

  1. Microsoft Exchange Server – Connection Tab

- Click OK

 

  1. Microsoft Outlook Warning Dialog Box

- Click OK

 

 

  1. Add New E-Mail Account – Microsoft Exchange Settings

- Click Finish

 

 

  1. Microsoft Outlook Message Box

 

**Note: OPTIONAL: It is at the users digression on whether they choose to enable the Instant Search Feature in Outlook. Doing so downloads and installs the Windows Desktop Search Component.

 

- Install Instant Search feature in Outlook – Click Yes

- If you Choose NOT to install and DO NOT wish to see this message every time you start         Outlook – Click Do not show this message again

- Do Not Install Instant Search feature in Outlook – Click No

**Note: OPTIONAL: The following Privacy Options are available. If you don’t make any selections now and would like to go back you can find them at the following location: - Click the Tools menu - Click Options - Click the Other Tab - Click Advanced Options… - Click Service Options… - Category: Customer Feedback Options

 

- Click OK

 

Finish.
