If you have a personal computer you want to use on the Yale wireless network, you first need to register it on the Yale Network Registration page. To do so, you will need to get the wireless hardware address (also known as the MAC address, physical address, or AirPort ID) for your computer.

On a PC:

From the Start Menu, choose "Run" and type "cmd" to open a command window.

In the command window, type "ipconfig /all"

This will return your computer's network configuration for both your local area connection (your ethernet port) and your wireless network connection. The line you're interested is the Physical Address for your wireless network connection, which will be in the format XX-XX-XX-XX-XX-XX.

On a Mac:

Under the Apple menu, open System Preferences and select the Network pane. Highlight AirPort and click "Advanced" to get your AirPort ID, which will be in the format XX-XX-XX-XX-XX-XX.

Once you have your wireless hardware address:

Go to the Yale Network Registration page from a computer that is already on the network and click the "Register Student Network Connection" button. After logging in with your Net ID, you should be taken to the network registration site. If you're a faculty member, you may get a "Not a Student" message; just click "Proceed to the Student Network Registration Site."

Once on the registration site, click on "Register a new computer." Enter your Ethernet Hardware Address, leaving out any dashes or colons (do not auto-detect your EHA), and the other requested information, then click "I Agree." This will register your computer on the wireless network. Please note, it can take up to 30 minutes for the registration to become active. Once your registration is active, you should be able to load web pages in your browser.

If you're able to connect to the wireless network but not able to load web pages, and you've waited over half an hour for the registration to take effect, go back to the Yale Network Registration page and verify that you entered the hardware address correctly, and that you used your wireless (or Airport) hardware address rather than your local (or ethernet) address.
