Configuring the Yale VPN on your Mac:

Yale's Virtual Private Network (VPN) allows users connecting from a non-Yale internet service provider to access Yale services as though the user was on Yale's network. Using VPN enables you to connect to the school's internal servers, such as your user space and class space.

There are two options for setting up VPN on a Mac. You can use the Cisco Systems VPN Client software that Yale provides, which is easier to configure but requires installing the software. As an alternative, you can use the VPN software which is already built-in to the Mac, but which requires a little more work to configure. Read over the steps for the two options, and follow whichever you feel more comfortable with.

Installing the Cisco VPN

  1. Log in to the Yale Software Library with your Yale Net ID and password. Click on the Macintosh tab, then scroll down the list and click on the VPN - Cisco AnyConnect (SSL).
  2. Click on the Download Now button to download the Cisco installer.

  1. Once downloaded, a Java updater will run and install the application. During this process, you may be prompted to enter you Mac administrator password. Please note this is the username and password that you use to modify or login to your computer specifically, not your Yale NetID or password.
After installation is complete, go to the Applications > Cisco folder and locate the Cisco AnyConnect icon shown below and click on it.

  1. After launching Cisco AnyConnect you will be prompted for your NetID and password.

  1. Once your credentials are entered, click the Connect button to establish a VPN connection.
