DM Architecture File Spaces

User Space:

This is a remotely mountable volume that is your personal space. It is password protected and has a maximum of up to 8GB of space that is only accessible by you. It can be mounted from both Macs and PCs. Your files will remain on the server throughout the academic year. If you exceed this limit your account will be locked automatically and remain locked until enough files are removed to be back under the quota. Accounts are automatically unlocked when below the quota limit.

Class & Studio Space:

Digital Media can create a shared studio and/or class folder. It is available up to a maximum of 15 GB of space for Studios and 8 GB of space for Courses, and up to a maximum of 1 GB for Individual school sanctioned research projects, and school sanctioned group student projects. Faculty and Course and Studio TA's can request server space by clicking here. Please note, server space requests require approval from the Director of Digital Media.

Open Space:

The Open Space is a temporary and limited use space for the ease of transferring files around the school, and the workstations. No work should be permanently stored there. Anyone in the school can access this folder and erase your files. There is no backup made of this folder. If your files are erased from this space there is no way to retrieve them. Please use either your User Space or removable media to save your work.

Scratch Space:

This is an active local working space on the workstations. This space is intended to allow users to work on large files more efficiently. If you copy files to the scratch space first, and work on them from the local machine, you will be able to open them faster and you will be able to modify these files more quickly. This is not to be used as long term storage because files can be deleted by anyone. If there is not enough free space on the Scratch Space, please feel free to throw out files stored there.

Render Farm Space:

This is space devoted to the render farm. Files will automatically be deleted after 7 days by the server.. It is ONLY to be used in conjunction with the Network Distributed Rendering System (Render Farm). Once rendered, movies and still images need to be removed immediately.
