DM VPN and Off Campus Yale School of Architecture Archserver Connection
VPN service allows users that are connecting to the Yale Campus Network from an Internet Service Provider (such as DSL service, a cable modem provider, or any commercial dial-up service) to appear as if they are directly connected to the Campus Network. This allows for access to services that are otherwise restricted to the Campus Network, and enables users of the University email systems to send email to off-campus sites without reconfiguring the Eudora or Netscape email client. Additionally, the VPN service encrypts all traffic between the client computer and the Campus Network, providing an extra measure of security.

If you live on Campus, in the Dormitories, you do not need to setup a VPN connection.
