Ornament Theory and Design

This course reviews the major theories governing ornament in Western architecture, with special emphasis on nineteenth- and twentieth-century arguments. The ultimate focus is on the language of ornament in the framework of building and urban space today. Readings, exercises, and individual final projects are required. Limited enrollment.
