When it comes to protest, making oneself visible can be strategy to attain sanctuary. To this end, there exist scaffolding tripods, which are objects that increase one’s visibility in a crowd. If a law enforcement agent were to pull out one leg of the tripod, they would actively harm an otherwise peaceful protester. The issue with this object, however, is that it makes the protester a lonely target. By re-envisioning a ladder as precarious and mobile, the protester’s safety is contingent upon their supporting protester, embodying the communal act of protest. Safety is assured in numbers.
