The publication of Vincent Scully’s article Michelangelo’s Fortification Drawings" in *Perspecta 1 formally marked the beginning of his contributions as author and advisor to this journal. Scully’s insistence on excellence, guided by his expansive spirit of exploration, alternately challenge and inspire in a way that helps to shape the aspirations and very character of Perspecta. The intelligence and generosity of Scully’s vision enrich Perspecta and indeed, architecture itself. Perspecta 18 is dedicated to him.
