From sun print to study models to a floating fish farm in Ghana: a proposal for Francis Kéré @ kerearchitecture and Martin Finio @martinfinio advanced studio “New Tool.”
.
The ocean fish farm, designed for the local fishermen of Ghana, is an endeavor to empower a community marginalized by rapid urbanization. It also represents a bottom-up effort towards sustainable development and environmental stewardship.
.
The design combines a flexible modular system with the use of bamboo as the basic construction material, requiring little skill and only simple tools to execute. The roof is made from overlapping independent pieces, an ingenious solution to create a safe long-span space on the sea and to collect rainwater. The fish farm aims to “teach to fish” rather than “give a fish.”
